Our materials

We have personally chosen each material selected in our shoes, paying attention to the following criteria:

  • Vegan : all our materials are certified 100% vegan;
  • Recycling : the majority of our materials incorporate recycled materials;
  • Water consumption : the fabrics used require reduced water use compared to traditional industry;
  • Positive impact of suppliers : we work exclusively with suppliers who respect the strictest standards in terms of eco-responsibility.

Biovegs

It is thanks to their organic content derived from plant resources that Bio-Veg materials stand out as a sustainable alternative to leather. This result was obtained thanks to the use of 48% bio-polyols from non-food and non-GMO cereals, combined with textiles from natural or recycled materials, such as viscose (FSC certified) and recycled polyester. post-consumer chain (GRS certified). Its carbon footprint is 13% lighter than standard options (GWP - Global Warming Potential).

These fabrics are LCA (Life cycle assessment) certified - which determines the environmental impact linked to the different stages of production of the articles.

The LCA (life cycle analysis) of this material reveals significant improvements in these areas: health, climate, environment, natural resources.

Piñatex®

A textile fiber resulting from the transformation of pineapple leaves, Piñatex is a sustainable alternative to animal leather. This material, made from waste from pineapple farming, is particularly flexible and resistant. Usually burned, thrown away or simply left to rot, the long fibrous leaves of the pineapple are scraped to extract the fibers. They are then washed, dried in the sun and then mechanically pressed. Spun to obtain a non-woven mesh, they give rise to a soft, felted white material which is then colored using a GOTS certified dye.

Recycled glitter

The recycled sequin fabric is the result of cotton (48%) combined with recycled PET sequins (52%). Recycled PET comes mainly from the recycling of bottles and food packaging. New recycling technologies require relatively little energy and produce high-quality products with a low carbon footprint.

Recycled satin

Recycled satin is a blend of cotton (70%), recycled polyester
and polyester (12%). The cotton in this material is produced under the BETTER COTTON (BCI) label, the world's leading sustainability initiative for cotton.

The outer soles

BIKKOU collaborates with an Italian supplier who has developed an innovative material called Ecothunit . Through a specific recycling process, it has developed high quality and environmentally friendly soles.

Ecothunit soles contain over 50% recycled rubber and are 100% recyclable. They are exclusively dyed with water, the pigments of the waste water being completely eliminated to allow reuse of the water.

Insoles

Our linings and insoles are made from 60% polymers from corn fermentation. Natural polymers reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 63% and energy consumption by 40%.
compared to nylon polymers.
Corn polymer is combined with polyester fibers which are entirely recycled, thus promoting a circular economy.
The resulting material is both breathable, washable and 100% recyclable.

The insoles are Oeko-Tex® Standard 100 class 1 certified.
